Tips for a picky eater kid

Is mealtime a big lost battle with your child? Relax and try out the following easy tips:

  •     First of all, you have to try your best not to show to your kid that you are angry and not to negotiate with him; focus on being patient, otherwise he will take advantage of the situation and resists furthermore your requests
  •     Keep in mind that sometimes a child refuses new food around five to seven times before savoring it. This could be based on the smell or the shape of the food offered. Never give up trying
  •     Involve picky eaters in meal preparation; this would encourage them to taste their maneuver
  •     Give virtual names to foods based on their shapes; for instance, name broccoli or cauliflower “tree”, “balls” for peas, etc..
  •     Avoid offering sugary snacks between meals as this might prevent him to feel hungry
  •     Never force a child to eat; respect his feeling of fullness
  •     Don’t offer alternatives easily, especially foods his likes the most or deserts
  •     Make your meal look like his and try be a good role model; offer him the same the food you are offering to the whole family, and don’t make exceptions
  •     Don’t offer full large plates; use instead small portions
  •     Make his mealtime fun; cut potatoes in funny shapes, buy letters shaped pasta, draw smiley faces, etc..
  •     Try to minimize distraction; remove the tablets, turn off the TV and keep away his toys
  •     Try to add colors to his plate using a variety of vegetables
  •     If your refuses categorically to eat, leave him. He will feel hungry later on. However; the key here is to offer the same food once again rather than something new
  •     Engage you child in active games like cycling, running, swimming, etc. Not only this will help him build stronger bones and muscles, but this would leave him hungry afterwards
