Snakebites

What to do after a snake bite?

Medical attention is needed, but first:

  • Stay calm.
  • Move a way from the snake.
  • Try not to move the bitten arm or leg and try to stay as quiet as possible.
  • Remove any jewelry or bands that might be near the bite because swelling tends to spread quickly.
  • If possible, apply a loose splint to reduce movement of the affected area without restricting blood flow.
  • Don't use a tourniquet or apply ice.
  • Don't cut at the wound or attempt to remove the venom.
  • If the bite changes color, begins to swell or is painful don't waste any time in quickly seeking medical attention.
