Composition
Each 1 tablet contains:
Paracetamol 500 mg.
Codeine phosphate 10 mg.
Pharmacodynamics properties
Paracetamol and codeine combine the central analgesic effect of codeine and the peripheral analgesic and antipyretic effects of paracetamol.
These components are well absorbed after oral administration. Paracetamol acts by the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis resulting in analgesic and antipyretic actions.
Therapeutic indications
This product is indicated to treat mild to moderate pain, migraine, headache, rheumatoid arthritis, dysmenorrhea, teeth pain, influenza, neuralgias and pharyngitis.
Side effect
Rarely observed; but in some cases there is drowsiness, vertigo, sweating, constipation and nausea.
Warnings and precautions
cThis product should not be given to patients with severe head injuries and acute abdominal conditions except by medical prescription.
The drug Should be used cautiously in cases of Addison's disease, prostatomegaly, severe renal or liver failure.
Patients using Cetacodeine should take care when driving and working on machinery.
Contraindication
This product should not be used in case of sensitivity to any of its components or in patients with liver failure.
Pregnancy and lactation
It should be used cautiously during lactation, Cetacodeine is classified (pregnancy category C), therefore it must be taken only by medical prescription and when the potential benefit is greater than the fetal risk.
Drug interactions
Prescribed cautiously when using with the following medications:
1- Central analgesics.
2- CNS suppressants including: Alcohol, anxiolytic, antihistamine and anti-Spasmodic drugs.
Dosage & administration
Children over 12 years old and adults: (1–2) tablet (3–4) times daily.
Overdose
An overdose of paracetamol may cause serious damage to the liver and kidneys.
Never exceed the prescribed dose.
If this medicine is taken regularly for long periods of time, it can develop tolerance and it may become less effective in relieving pain. with prolonged use, the body may also become dependent to codeine.
