Composition
Each sustained release film coated tablet contains:
Glipizide 2.5 mg – 5 mg – 10 mg.
Pharmacodynamics properties
Antihypertensive drugs for oral blood sugar.
Properties
Glipizide is a sulfonylurea hypoglycemic agent, it acts mainly by increasing endogenous insulin secretion from beta cells of Langerhans Islet Tissue in pancreas and increases the sensitivity of insulin in tissue.
And decreases the production of glucose in type II of non-insulin dependent diabetic mellitus patients.
Therapeutic indications
Treatment of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.
Side effect
It maybe cause nausea, vomiting, constipation, dyspepsia, hypoglycemia, skin rash, dizziness, headache, arthralgia, increase appetite and weight.
Contraindication
– Ketoacidosis.
– Hypersensitivity to this product.
– Diabetic Coma.
– Juvenile Diabetes.
– Severe renal or hepatic failure.
Warnings and precautions
– It should be used with caution in patients with renal and hepatic impairment.
– It is necessary during excessive exercise as hypoglycemia may be provoked and patient should be instructed to take their meals regularly.
Drug interactions
Thiazide diuretics corticosteroids, calcium channels blockers, estrogen, rifampicin, oral contraceptive decrease the hypoglycemic effect of this product. Ketoconazole, beta blockers, salicylates and NSAIDs, sulfunamide, coumarin, anticoagulants, captopril, increase the hypoglycemic effect of this product, so dosage adjustement should be occured.
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
The usual initial dose is 2.5 mg to 5 mg daily, usually is taken 15–30 minutes before breakfast.
Dosage may be adjusted as doctor advice to the maximum 20 mg daily. The sustained release of this product adjust glucose blood level, with the maximum concentration of drug in blood after 6–12 hours from taking.

Glyfree 2.5: Carton box of 30 film coated tablets (two blisters).
Glyfree 5: Carton box of 30 film coated tablets (two blisters).
Glyfree 10: Carton box of 30 film coated tablets (two blisters).
Storage
Store at controlled room temperature 15°–30°C, Protect from light and moisture.
